How to Track Gym Days and Planned Rest Days Separately

Want a clear picture of your training week without treating every day as a gym target? X Calendar - Daily Routine Log lets you keep a gym calendar on your iPhone and, if useful, a separate calendar for planned rest days.

Can I track gym days and planned rest days without a detailed diary?

Gym Visits can hold the dates when you train. Planned Rest can hold the dates when you follow a rest day from your own programme. Keeping the two separate makes the meaning clear. You can also track only gym visits if that is all you want to remember.

How do I use X Calendar to record gym days and planned rest days?

A Gym Visits calendar can keep this record separate from other activities in X Calendar. Once it is created, you can open it and mark another completed date without writing out the same entry each time.

For Gym Visits, the useful entry is the real date when you finish your gym session. Marking it soon afterwards can make it easier to remember. If you return to the app later, use that actual date rather than a planned one. You can then look at the calendar knowing the marks describe completed occasions, without needing a written account of everything that happened around them.

  • Create a calendar called Gym Visits.
  • After you finish your gym session, tap that date to add an X.
  • Create Planned Rest separately if you want to record those dates too.

What can I see when I look back at gym days and planned rest days?

After a gym session, add an X to Gym Visits. If you choose to record planned rest, mark the appropriate day in Planned Rest instead. A blank gym date does not automatically tell you why you did not go, so only add a rest mark when that is what you actually want to record.

The calendars can help you look back at how training and time away fitted into the week. There is no need to fill every square or add an extra workout simply because a date is blank. Your programme can guide training and recovery while X Calendar keeps the dates you chose to remember.

You do not have to record rest days if you only want to see gym attendance. Gym Visits alone can answer when you trained. A Planned Rest calendar is an option for people who find that extra history useful, rather than another requirement to complete daily. Choose the records you will actually consult and let your programme guide the balance of training and time away.

Create Planned Rest separately if that history is useful; the calendar does not decide when you should rest.
